Monday, August 16, 2010: Soft Pretzel Present, Round Twin

He and his wife left their small apartment at night. He went ahead of her to find something. But it was too late to catch the bus. He returned to the apartment with a soft pretzel. It was their anniversary. He gave her the soft pretzel as a present. She loved it.

He walked in a strange hospital with his brother and his father. He entered a room with a twin of himself that was morbidly obese to the point of roundness. A group of orderlies surrounded him and bound this round him. They opened up the wall and rolled him away. He thought it was strange because he was still here.

Saturday, April 05, 2008: Lost while driving in a box with my brother

I had a dream that I was driving down a road at night. I was driving in a rectangular black plastic bucket (we use them for trash receptacles). I do not know how I was steering or accelerating or braking, but I drove it somehow. My brother was on the passenger side. Once, he stood up to look over the side, and I told him to move his big rear end out of the way; he was blocking my view of the road. We were lost, so we decided to pull over to ask for directions.

Finally, without bucket or brother, dawn rose, and I found myself walking on the side of a familiar road, not too far from home. There was a bucket of food in the gutter. I was hungry and they were all wrapped in plastic. It did not seem like trash to me, rather, it seemed like somebody knew I would be stopping by that part of the road and left supplies for me along the way.

Thursday, December 27, 2007: Foot in my face

While lying in bed, I discussed Gurdjieff and Ouspensky with a teddy bear. Suddenly, I was aware of a foot in my face; the foot belonged to my twin brother. I pushed the foot away from me.

Wednesday, December 12, 2007: Tornado

I had a dream that I was walking around inside an apartment on the third floor of a three story building, similar to my childhood home. The walls were covered in cheap wood paneling, and the doors were not sturdy. My mother and father were there, and possibly my siblings, other relatives, and my wife and children. I could see through the window that the sky was cloudy. Somebody said that a tornado was coming. I picked up our dog, and we scrambled for the exit, to get into the cellar before the tornado hit.

Monday, July 16, 2007: Mom, Giant, Ross, Invasion

In a reversal of real life, I dreamed that my father had passed away, and my mom was elderly and needed home care. My sister and I discussed the matter, and I decided that I would take her into my home. I lived in an apartment that I apparently visited infrequently. My brother was there and asked, “What about me?” My response was that he should care of himself now.

I dreamed that I was standing on the north side of the long stretch of Hamilton Street. A Tolkien-esque invasion of orcs and other monsters approached from the south. We prepared for battle.

I dreamed that I was at a conference with Dr Ross Geller from the TV show Friends. He was coaching us on what to say. I asked him if I could call him King Nerd. He said sure.

In the last dream I had, I was in a stadium with my father. He was seated. I was fighting off a giant, who kept tearing up chairs and rocks and throwing them at me.

Wednesday, July 04, 2007: Fragments

I can only recall fragments of dreams... a strange house with narrow stairs... living with my father, sister, brother, and my dog... somebody says, “You take the blue room.”... a red door... my brother and a friend are welding metal... climbing rocks near the ocean... neighbors doing drugs...

Tuesday, February 13, 2007: The Rat at the Window

I was lying in bed, in an amalgam of my childhood home, and the apartment my family lived after. It was dark. Somebody was lying in my twin brother’s bed, but it was not my twin brother. I could discern a feminine silhouette, lying still in the dark, eyes open and unblinking, lips apart and teeth showing slightly. This person next to me might have been dead. Beyond the doorway, out the kitchen window, in the darkness of the night, a rodent made chittering noises. I tried to wake myself, but I could not. I forced myself to speak in my sleep, and my wife woke me up.

Wednesday, December 13, 2006: New Old Office, Firecrackers

I was assigned to a different office. The office was set up bullpen style, like an old newspaper office. My small gray metal desk was near a window. It was night outside. My window was above the city street, I am not sure how many stories up. I arranged several objects around my desk: a pair of brown leather cushions, a pair of green banana leaves, a pair of green glass and brass desklamps, a pair of gray metal desk fans.

Nearby was an eighteen-wheel truck. Several truck-drivers were gathered. One lit a string of firecrackers. They burst one by one, faster and faster, until all but a few exploded. One truck-driver picked up an unexploded firecracker. Suddenly, it went off in his hand. He looked at his hand, startled, then showed us, laughing: his hand was unharmed. My brother held up his hand, saying, “You’re lucky. I lost my pinky doing the same thing.”

Friday, November 24, 2006: Superhero, Hospital, College

I was a superhero, standing in a line with other superheroes, waiting to be allowed to enter a city of superheroes. I wore a costume, but I did not have a mask. I searched for a suitable mask, but I only found mexican wrestler masks. As I entered the city, a costumed woman handed me a list of rules to follow. The city was futuristic in appearance, with escalators and moving walkways, glass, steel, concrete, and bright lights. It was teeming with caped and costumed superheroes. I explained to a friend that this place was like the Justice League.

In another dream, I was in a hospital. I was slowly pacing a room with a doctor. The room was clean, with light blue tile and curtains. The doctor looked like M Night Shyamalan. He described the procedure to me in a calm voice. He also spoke to a woman who would be assisting him, listing the surgical instruments that he would require. The procedure involved operating on my chest. The nurse asked if my chest would need to be shaved.

In my last dream, I returned to college. In a classroom and in the halls, I saw my brother and many highscool friends. I walked into a cooking class; the teacher was Emeril Lagasse. As I walked around the class, speaking with Emeril, I stretched a piece of dough into a pizza. I apologized to Emeril for missing his class, explained that I was sick, and asked if there was any makeup work or tests. He said not to worry about it. I searched the classroom for a pizza stone, but I could not find one. All I could find was more dough, in various shapes and stages.

Monday, October 23, 2006: Second Story Man

Under cover of night, I scaled a stone building. A rectangular reflecting pool was adjacent to the building. I wore loose dark clothing, and a scimitar on my belt. The stone had many crevasses and decorations to grip. I climbed up to a balcony, entered a room, and examined its contents by touch. What I searched for was not here. I climbed to another balcony, and continued my search.

Somehow, my brother appeared. He wanted to follow in my footsteps, but he was incompetent. He made too much noise. He couldn’t climb well. And he drew attention to us, so much that we were accosted by guards. I drove them back with my scimitar, while my brother hid behind me, clinging to my back. I couldn’t endure my brother’s interference any longer, so I climbed down and left.

I walked to my father’s house; he had moved. His house was on a corner. The road had a lot of noisy traffic, as it seemed to be a common shortcut. He wanted to borrow money, but I said no. My wife and daughter arrived, and I departed with them.

I was cuddling with my wife in bed. She asked me if I ever loved anybody else. I replied honestly, that yes I had, but that was years before I met her.

Friday, September 10, 2004: Waking Dream, Younger Brother, Elderly Sleepers, Bus

I was sleeping next to my wife, but the bedroom looked different. It reminded me of when we had to live in my parents’ basement.

In another dream, I was trying to get downstairs from an upper floor of a large apartment building. I saw my younger brother (which I do not have in real life) studying medicine. I found a chaotic back porch, with mazes of railings, stairs, and piles of junk. After I got past those obstacles, I came upon a dark room filled with old people sleeping on mattresses on the floor. “Does anybody know they’re living like this?” I thought to myself.

In my last dream, my house had a huge garage. I pressed a button and opened the massive garage door. A city bus pulled into the garage. A mechanic began to tune up the bus. My father and brother were with me. I asked the mechanic if the buses are going back into service. He said, “It looks like they are.”

The buses have been on strike for two months. Ugh.

Thursday, August 26, 2004: Green Hills, Gold Rings, Marriage

I was climbing a green, grassy hill. As I ascended, I found a gold ring. As I continued, I found another gold ring.

In the other dream, I was in the rear seat of a car. My brother was driving, and my sister was in the front passenger seat. They were asking me questions about my relationship with my wife, with implications that I was only with her because of the church. I told them that I genuinely loved her, and besides, I was no longer with the church. This shocked them.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004: Apartments

I was standing across the street from a pair of three-story apartments, sitting on an open plain. The apartments had flat roofs and were constructed, if you had a bird’s-eye view, to resemble the letter W. The house on the left was yellow; the house on the right was white. By way of color, position, and height, the apartment on the right resembled my childhood home on Dartmouth Street, and the apartment on the left resembled... the apartment to the left of my childhood home. Because the apartments were on an open plain, I felt nervous about approaching tornados, though there wasn't a cloud in sight.

A woman was selling the yellow house. It seems I had already bought the white house. “If I had the money,” I thought, “I would buy both houses.”

As I examined the house, I discovered that the basement ceiling was very low, and I was able to move the floorboards overhead. The upper interior of the house had a wide open space with heavy, movable wrought-iron stairs, platforms, and even stranger structures, one of which I think was a folding cube.

My father, brother, uncles, and my father’s (now deceased) dog were in the house. As Bandit, my father’s dead dog approached me, I felt apprehensive, because I knew that, in real life, the dog was dead.

In another dream I had, I was in a hotel bed. I had a cold. My nose was very runny. I blew my nose frequently and put the tissues on the floor next to the bed. Steve (Jack Davenport) and Susan (Sarah Alexander) from the BBC TV show Coupling were in the bed next to me, arguing.

I had a dream that I was living in a first-floor studio of an apartment complex. A young black man outside my window was complaining about how loud my music was.

I had a dream that I was reading RPG review online, something that I was doing frequently last night.

Finally, in the last dream I remember, I was talking to a small latino boy and his family. He had a black pet that could talk, though I can’t remember if it was a cat or a dog.
